Urgent Intake: Dogs Rescued From Suspected Puppy Mill

Three Dogs in Our Care — More to Come

Urgent Intake: Dogs Rescued From Suspected Puppy Mill image

We received a call from Animal Control asking if we could help with dogs coming from a suspected puppy mill situation. So far, we’ve taken in three dogs: a Mastiff, a Cane Corso, and a smaller bully breed, with more to come.

These dogs were being kept outdoors in muddy, dirty kennels and appear to have been left there during recent snowstorms. Their water bowls were frozen, no signs of food, and the tarps covering their kennels were weighed down with snow and close to collapsing. All three dogs have sore spots from laying on hard ground for extended periods of time.

Animal Control noted, and we saw the same when we arrived, that each dog immediately reached out for attention. They were eager for human contact the moment help arrived.

All three dogs have poorly cropped ears that seem to have been done fairly recently. The Mastiff and the bully both have bloody tails from ongoing happy tail injuries caused by living in a small space for extended amounts of time. The Mastiff in particular is noticeably malnourished, and the brown bully had a bloody mouth likely from chewing on her kennel. As we see time and time again in these situations, all three dogs are still sweet and seem eager to receive help.

They’ll now receive thorough exams so we can better understand their medical needs. We’ll go ahead and get them vaccinated, started on monthly preventatives, and eventually spayed so they can never be used for breeding again. Donations made today will go directly toward their medical care and will also help ensure we’re able to help the other dogs from this situation as well.

We will of course keep you updated along the way.
