Dozer has been patiently waiting for his second chance since April 30, 2024. In that time, he has become a true favorite among our staff, winning hearts with his big personality and even bigger presence. At over 85 pounds, Dozer is a strong, loving dog with endless potential.
After 2 years in the shelter, and at just 4 years old, Dozer has developed a few behaviors that are completely understandable given his environment. His kennel has become the only space he can call his own, and he has grown protective of it. While he walks well on leash and knows his commands, he can become overstimulated and struggle to settle. He also guards his food and toys, something we know can be improved with time and the right, dedicated guidance.
That's why we are turning to Dancing Creek Farm, an incredible facility that specializes in board and train programs for rescue dogs and beyond. This immersive training experience will give Dozer something a busy shelter cannot: consistency, structure, and space to learn.
In a board and train program, dogs live alongside experienced trainers who work with them throughout the day, turning every interaction into a learning opportunity. This level of consistency helps dogs build confidence, understand expectations, and develop reliable behaviors much faster than traditional training alone. These programs help bring out a dog’s best qualities while working through behaviors that may be holding them back. For Dozer, this means accentuating his many positive traits while smoothing out some of the rough edges that have developed during his time here. It also means some much-needed time outside the shelter.
At Dancing Creek Farm, Dozer will stay in a private cabin where he can decompress, stretch out, and relax. With the help of a certified trainer, he will work on building confidence, manage overstimulation, and learn that he no longer needs to guard the things around him. Most importantly, this program will help set him up for long-term success in a home and give him the best possible life moving forward. Even after adoption, Dancing Creek Farm will continue to support Dozer and his future family, helping ensure a smooth transition and continued training success.
The cost of Dozer’s board & train is $1,800 per month, with a minimum three-month stay. We are setting our initial goal at $7,200 to cover four months of training, though he could be there longer. Every dollar raised will go directly toward Dozer’s stay and care in this program. Our hope is to continue supporting him for as long he needs until he finds his forever family.
Dozer has already waited so long. This is his chance to reset, to re-learn, and to finally become the dog we know he is at heart: happy, confident, and ready to love. Your support will help us give him that opportunity and set him up for success when he does find his future family.
We will be sharing regular updates on Dozer’s journey along the way on our social media, so you can follow his progress and see the impact of your support in real time.
We are so grateful to Dancing Creek Farm for giving dogs like Dozer this opportunity and we cannot wait to watch him blossom. With your help, we can give Dozer the future he has been waiting for.
